Hasar and UNICEF are partners in wastewater recycling project.
Hasar and UNICEF have signed a partnership agreement to promote water recycling/reservation in Erbil and implement practical projects in this field. The Action against climate change by utilizing wastewater (ACUW) is a project that aims at recycling wastewater to produce clean water used for irrigation of planted trees.
Currently, the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and Erbil governorate particularly are suffering from water scarcity. Ground water monitoring date confirm that underground water levels have been decreasing significantly, posing a tangible threat to existing water resources in the region, and necessitate the need for wastewater utilization.
Through this partnership, Hasar and UNICEF will work on recycling domestic wastewater through a chain of treatment processes, producing enough recycled water to irrigate 60,000 oak trees and reserve underground water that is currently being used for irrigation, thereby creating a successful model to be scaled up in other locations.
