We are delighted to announce the successful completion of the first phase of our groundbreaking project, “Action Against Climate Change by Utilizing Wastewater.” The event, attended by key stakeholders and participants, marked a significant milestone in our unwavering commitment to climate resilience.
The primary objective of this gathering was to celebrate the successful attainment of the project’s objectives, providing all stakeholders with an opportunity to witness the system’s efficacy on the ground. Present at the event were key project stakeholders including Hasar as the project developer, UNICEF as co-developer, and the General Directorate of Water and Sewage as the collaborating authority. Also in attendance were Hasar members, representatives from related international NGOs, and local citizens.
We are proud to announce that the Advanced Community Utility Water (ACUW) system is fully operational and able to produce 340 cubic meters of water per day, meeting quality standards set by the General Directorate of Water and Sewage. This system is currently providing crucial irrigation support for both the MillionOaks project and other governmental trees in the project’s vicinity.
This achievement aligns seamlessly with Hasar’s overarching mission to foster climate resilience in the Kurdistan region. ACUW serves as a pivotal step toward fulfilling this commitment by offering immediate and long-term benefits to the community. The system not only prevents the misuse of wastewater but also repurposes it for crucial irrigation activities, thereby contributing to public health and environmental well-being.
As we look to the future, the next stage of this project will focus on upscaling and refining the system to further alleviate the region’s dependence on groundwater. We are optimistic about continuing our collaboration with our current stakeholders and invite additional partners to join us in this next phase.
