Hasar, a non-profit organization that performs climate actions in the Kurdistan Region, and HUMANBLINK Innovation, a Swiss company that uses technology to help rewilding, have partnered to transform afforestation. The collaboration will allow Hasar to implement and use state-of-the-art data collection and processing to improve operations management to drive Hasar’s ambitious afforestation projects.
HUMANBLINK has supported MillionOaks Project (An initiative by Hasar Organization) at the 120m Road in Erbil City since June 2022 with hardware, software, and technical support. It has provided remote soil monitoring tools for managing tree and soil health. Wireless sensors collect data from the soil at different depths; the data is collected centrally in the cloud and transformed into Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) used to track project milestones (soil and irrigation) in afforestation projects.
Hasar has benefited from HUMANBLINK’s support in several ways. First, the donated sensors have helped Hasar collect more accurate and timely data on environmental conditions. Second, HUMANBLINK has provided outstanding support and training to Hasar, assisting the organization in using the data to improve its afforestation projects.

The following steps for future collaboration include expanding the use of sensors to collect data on afforestation projects worldwide. The data will be used to develop new models and tools to help organizations improve the efficiency and effectiveness of their afforestation efforts.
