The Challenge

Erbil’s urban environment faces significant ecological stress, marked by low air quality, minimal tree cover, and vulnerability to extreme weather. The Canopy Corridor addresses these challenges head-on, leveraging Hasar’s four-year expertise in afforestation.

Project Description

The Canopy Corridor initiative will plant up to 10K fast-growing, impactful trees along the 120m Road. These trees will create a verdant canopy, enhancing biodiversity, improving air quality, and providing a natural respite from urban stress. The project is not just about planting trees; it’s about nurturing a greener future for Erbil and its inhabitants.

What We Offer at Hasar Partners

Land Secured: Availability of dedicated land space for afforestation, ensuring a solid foundation for the Canopy Corridor project.

Water Resources: Access to a sustainable water supply, derived from a wastewater recycling process that has received recognition from both UNICEF and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG). This resource is crucial for the irrigation and nurturing of the newly planted trees.

Supervision Technology: Implementation of advanced technology for real-time monitoring and supervision. This system facilitates precise tracking of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), ensuring that the project’s progress aligns with our goals.

Protected Area: The project area is fully fenced, providing protection against potential environmental hazards, including fire.

Fire Protection Measures:
Establishment of fire protection lines around the project area, further safeguarding the newly planted trees and the surrounding environment from fire-related risks.

Key Performance Indicator (KPI)

Tree Survival Rate: Aim to maintain a 90% survival rate over the first year, ensuring the long-term success and growth of the planted trees.

Phases of Implementation

Phase 1: Brainstorming with partners, agreement documentation, and initial financial contributions.
Phase 2: Execution of core project activities, including procurement and program engagement.
Phase 3: Ongoing supervision and maintenance post-planting.
